San Juan/Dolores River Basin Water Use, Growth & Water
Demand Projections
Department of Natural Resources-Colorado Water Conservation Board
This is part of the CWCB's continuing effort to help
communities determine whether their existing water
supplies are adequate. This latest effort began in 1999
with a conservation survey of local governments,
publication and distribution of a dam site inventory,
and series of ineetings in each major water basin. Tasks
yet to be completed include the publication of water
information fact sheets, a drought planning assessmentl
carry-over storage assessment, and these preliminary
growth and water demand projection fact sheets. These
materials and others are available at our website.
Basin Statistics - These numbers give a general overview of the
current (2000) and future (203 0) statistics within the basin.
Year Population (2) Irrigated Total Current Useable
Acres (5) Diversions (8) Storage (6)
2000 133,282 269,000 1,877,000 524,900 acre feet
acre feet
2030 23 9,13 8 269, 000 1, 900, 000 644, 900 acre feet
acre feet
Percent +79% 0% +1.2% +23%
Change
S~ (5,8)
San JuanlDolores River Basin Projected Future Water Demands
3000
2500
~ 2000
~
~
~
~
3
0
~
~
~ 1500
~
~
Q 1000
500
0
Greg Walcher
DNR Executive Director
Rod Kuharich
CWCB Director

~~n Population byCourriy ~2~
Native Suppy
Irrigation CU
Municipal CU
Exports
~-Total CU
Total DemandslDiversions
2000 2010
Year
2020
2030
S~ Native Supply =
Undepleted,
unregulated available
surface water.
