The implementation of the FloodDSS is anticipated to take a total of 2 to ;years to complete as
described in the pilot study. The FloodDSS is in the process of sending out an RFQ for the
implementation based on the recommendations listed in the pilot study. For FY 07-OS, an appropriation
of $250,000 is being sought from the Construction Fund to complete the CWCB Flood DSS
program. The Flood DSS was initiated in 2005 with the approval of $50,000 from the Severance Tax
operational for the pilot study. The program was again funded in 2007, with the approval of $250,000
again from the construction fund. The current total of non-reimbursable investment in the Flood DSS is
$250,000.
Discussion
The Flood DSS primary focus is to meet the needs by providing a clearinghouse of flood hazard
information for use by a variety of users, including developers, insurance industry and government
agencies. It will also provide timely and well-organized flood outlook data products for emergency
managers. Finally, provide an additional clearinghouse of additional flood-related data, including weather
modification, stream restoration.
The full scale Flood DSS will include the following:
• User Needs Assessments
• Data Recommedations
o Data Collection
o Data Availability and Quality
o Digitizing Data
Colorado Water Conservation Board
Flood Protection • Water Supply Planning and Finance • Stream and Lake Protection
Water Supply Protection • Conservation and Draught Planning
