Jack, 4) the ratio of these SLW hours to the episode duration
(as a percent of the duration), 5) the approximate distance
(in nautical miles) to a synoptic feature (D.T.S.F.-SLW),
e.g., low, front, trough, from Happy Jack when SLW was first
observed, 6) the trend of the SLW observations during the
episode, 7) the a) average SLW (in mm per hour) for the hours
which equalled or exceeded .01 mm and b) the average SLW for
the entire episode duration, 8) the ratio of the number of
hours that SLW averaged in the moderate or strong category
(greater than .10 mm per hour) to the total number of SLW
hours observed (as a percent of the total), 9) the number
of hours that precipitation, of at least .002 inch (.05mm),
was recorded at Happy Jack during the episode, 10) the ratio
of these precipitation hours to the episode duration (as a
percent of the total), 11) the approximate distance to a synoptic
feature from Happy Jack when precipitation was first observed
(D.T.S.F.-pcpn), 12) the total precipitation at Happy Jack
(or another gauge site if none at Happy Jack), and 13) the
coldest temperature over the area during the episode at the
a) 700 mb level and, b) 500 mb levels. In addition, where
relevant, the table contains the average, median, maximum
and minimum values for all the cases for each of the parameters.

Four of the episodes were of the Medina A-1 storm type
and all produced significant precipitation (nearly an inch
or more). Average SLW (when it averaged at least .01 mm per
hour) for this storm type was .115 mm with the median between
.09 and .11 mm, but individual storm SLW averages ranged from
.051 mm to .205 mm per hour.

Ten of the episodes were generally of the Medina A-2
type (although two or three were rather poor examples) and

3-15

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
