SWSI Colorado Basin Available Studies/Data - Part 2
Submitted by; Kristine Crandall, Roaring Fork Conservancy
November 6, 2003

Relevant Studies/Data

CI Information on rafting activities on the Roaring Fork River is provided with the
attached report: "Wink Jaffee Park Analysis." This report contains historical
background on boating and other recreational uses on the upper Roaring Fork
River, as well as specific information on commercial boating activities and user
days (including in relation to different flow levels).
o Attached is information compiled by Lane WyattlNWCCOG on the stream flow
minimums needed for the pennitting requirements of various wastewater
treatment facility discharges along the Roaring Fork River and some tributaries
(Snowmass is on Brush Creek, Redstone is on the Crystal River). These types of
stream flow minimum thresholds are important to consider for existing and future
wastewater treatment needs throughout the basin.
a The Colorado Water Trust has developed maps that depict stream and river
priorities and critical flow reaches, as identified by a variety of non...profits and
state and federal agencies engaged in protection of aquatic resources. This
information should be very useful for helping detennine environmental water
needs within the SWSI process - contact information for the Water Trust can be
found at: htto://coloradowatertrust.ora/,
Q The Ruedi Reservoir 2012 Agreement EA report provides a good overview of the
various demands for Ruedi Reservoir's water (and timing/level of releases),
including Endangered Fish Recovery efforts, water contracts, flat-water recreation
thresholds, Fryingpan River angling activities and stream flow thresholds, and
hydro-electric operations. The "Affected Environment" section (Chapter 3) covers
mucb of this information. The report's web link is:
http://www . usbr ~ gOY J .9: pin epaJruedi 20 12. pdf.

The following information is being sent via snail mail (mailed 11/7 to CDM):

o Two scientific articles documenting the relationship between stream flow regimes
and riparian and wetland ecosystem health;
o The City's of Aspen's Assessment of Raw Water Availability (2000);
o A resolution adopted by the City of Aspen that contains policies to protect stream
flows;
o Two CDs with the reports for the FryingpanIRoaring Fork Rivers Fishery Study
(the web links to these reports were provided in an earlier submission - I am
sending the CDs in case they would be a more useful format); and
o Excerpts from the "Roaring Fork & Fryingpan Rivers Multi-objective Planning
Project" report, which was prepared for CWCB (1999), highlighting the river
recreation and habitat values within the Roaring Fork Watershed.
