<br />BUREAU OF RECLAMATION <br />WESTERN COLORADO AREA OFFICE <br />COMMENTS ON <br />COLORADO RIVER BASIN FACT SHEET <br />DATED OCT. 31,2003 <br /> <br />Page 1, Section 1.3 - The following sentence should be added to the end of the first <br />paragraph in this section, "However, additional water development and associated <br />depletions are possible but are subject to additional consultation with the U..S~ Fish and <br />Wildlife Service." <br /> <br />Page 10, Section 2.1- The National Park Service should be added to the list of Federal <br />water agencies as they have management responsibilities for significant resources within <br />the basin. <br /> <br />Page 11, Section 2.4 - The last sentence in this section should be modified to read, "The <br />power plant has water rights for 1,408 cfs. <br /> <br />Page 18, Section 4.5 - Add "5. Controlling non-native fish species.n to the list of <br />activities the Upper Colorado Recovery Implementation Program is implementing to <br />recovery endangered fish species. <br /> <br />Page 19, Section 4.5 ..... Coordinated Reservoir Operations, change the paragraph to read, <br />"This initiative was implemented in March 1995. The implementation team includes the <br />major reservoir operators within the Colorado River Basin above Grand Junction, the <br />FWS, CWCB, SED, and several other interested organizations. The purpose is to <br />coordinate the filling of reservoirs during off peak periods thus enhancing spring peak <br />flows in the IS-Mile Reach." <br /> <br />Page 20, Section 4..5 - Add the following paragraph, "Grand Valley Water Management <br />Project: The Upper Colorado River Recovery Implementation Program has installed <br />canal efficiency improvements in the Government Highline Canal. The improvements <br />consist of a monitoring and automation systemt seven new canal check structures, a <br />return flow pipeline and pumping plant. These improvements provide the ability to <br />reduce river diversions by approximately 30,000 acre-feet annually. By reducing river <br />diversions a more reliable water supply is provided to both east and west slope water <br />users and improve habitat conditions for endangered fish in the IS-Mile Reach. <br /> <br />Page 21, Section 5.1 - The data depicted in the graph labeled "Colorado River Basin <br />Population by County should be checked. For instance the graph indicates that the <br />population of Mesa County in 2000 was less than 60,000. Current population in Mesa <br />County is over 100,000. <br /> <br />Page 22, Section 6.1 - Consider adding selenium concentrations to the list of water <br />quality concerns. <br />
