Comments on SWSI Colorado Basin Primer
Submitted by: Kristine Crandall, Roaring Fork Conservancy
October 7, 2003

a Page 5 - Major Exports from the Basin table: Can you add information to this
table that shows the full capacity/future/conditional diversions to this table (I
think this is what Taylor was asking about at Roundtable meeting)?
a Page 9 -- Areas of Environmental Concern: The revised USFS White River
National Forest Plan (completed in 2002) highlighted streams of importance for
existing Colorado River cutthroat trout populations and reintroduction potential.
This native trout species is considered a "species of viability concern" within the
forest plan. Other aquatic species with this designation are the boreal toad and the
leopard frog. I will try to look through my information for specifics, but if you
haven't reviewed the plan for water-related information (there is a "Water and
Riparian Resourcesu section in the Land and Resource Management Plan), I
would encourage you to do so.
Cl Page 9 - at the bottom: In addition to the specified stretch of the Fryingpan River,
the Roaring Fork River from its confluence with the Crystal River to the
confluence with the Colorado River is also a designated Gold Medal Water, and
the Roaring Fork River from McFarlane Creek (above Aspen) to Woody Creek is
a Wild Trout Water. Other such designations within the Colorado Basin would be
listed in the 2003 CDOW Fishing Regulations brochure4
o Page 10 - Federal Water Agencies - add: Natural Resource Conservation Service
a Page 11 - Environmental Organizations and Members Active in the Basin: others
(with some water focus) include: Roaring Fork Conservancy, Aspen Wilderness
Workshop, Colorado Water Trust, Eagle River Watershed Council, Colorado Big
Country RC&D, Snowmass/Capitol Creek Caucus, and Yampa River Basin
Partners.
o Page 20 - Demographics - there may be more updated population figures on the
Healthy Mountain Communities website: www~healthymountaincommunities~org
(the Colorado Index).
o Page 21 - Concerns - can add:
o Impacts of Ruedi Reservoir operations on Fryingpan River aquatic
ecosystem and recreation activities.

Cl For all GIS maps: Snowmass Village isn~t right (way too big an area); add
Carbondale; what is the date (year) of this information?
o Figure 3 - Can you either label the key diversions or link them to the diversions
shown in Table B-1 ?
o Figure B-3a - For each of these tables, what years are averaged?
o Figure 4 - Can the wells be labeled or listed in a table (like with the diversions)?
o Figure 5 - Can't see the pink, gray ("developed"), or the wetlands.
