Colorado River Basin
Grand Junction, Colorado 8.26.03
45
Municipal, agricultural, recreation
Clarify the SWSI process: The SWSI process needs to clarify how it will resolve
the big issues such as the role of the legislature in developing solutions, inter-
basin conflicts over potential solutions, and funding for implementation and
projects.
More storage capacity is needed : Because much of the basin?s water comes
from melted snow pack, additional storage should be considered. In addition,
rehabilitating and expanding the current reservoirs? storage capacity should be
considered.
Review all impacts on the water supply when developing solutions : There are
several factors that should be considered to increase the water supply such as
eliminating tamarisk, improving forest management, studying water quality needs,
and irrigation reuse.
The Colorado River basin needs more comprehensive long-term planning : The
Colorado River basin should develop a long-term water plan that considers growth,
conservation, and economic and recreational needs. The Colorado River basin
could benefit from learning and/or using best practices from other basins and
states.
More information is needed to make good decisions : By gathering and providing
more comprehensive water supply and demand data, the SWSI process could be
helpful in making important planning and allocation decisions. In addition, the
Colorado River basin residents should be educated on local water issues and
water conservation.
Use the Internet to give updates of projects.
