The work was carried out by a team of
experienced professional geologists under a special use permit issued by the Forest
Service:! USDA. The geological fieldwork consisted mainly of fracture mapping to
estimate the strength and defonnation properties of the rock mass in the foundation of the
proposed RCC gravity dam.. Seismic refraction surveys were completed to determine the
depth to bedrock along the dam. axis.

The proposed RCC gravity dam win be between 560 and 580 feet high and will have a
crest length of approximately 2,060 feet. It is located approximately 2,100 feet
downstream from the east entrance to Union Canyon on Lottis Creek. A preliminary
evaluation of the geological field data suggests that the rock mass in the fo1.D1dation of the
dam will be competent to support the static and dynamic loads of a gravity structure With
a reservoir storage capacity of up to 1.2 million acre-feet. A high safety factor against
sliding and bearing failure is anticipated.

All surface geological information must be verified by test drilling which is scheduled to
be completed in 2004 during Phase 2 of the subject investigation.

Sincerely yours, .

UEBLA.CKER ASSOCIATES

Horst Ueblacker~ P.
