.~ EAGLE RIVER
1It/(' WATER & SANITATION DISTRICT

r;ii" 846 Forest Road · Vail, Colorado 81657 .
{970) 476-7480 · FAX (970) 476-4089

November 1_3) 2003

Mr. Michael Gallagher, Chainnan
Eagle County Commissioners
PO Box 850 .
Eagle, CO 8163 1-0850 -

Vl1\ FACSIMILE and Regular Mail

Dear Michael, .

Thank you for your letter of November 5, 2003. We appreciate the Board of County
Commissioners considering oW' recommendation of having Chuck Ogilby serve as the County's
representative on the Colorado River Water Conservation District. Michael, now is the time to make a
change.
Referendum A was one of the most important water issues facing Eagle County and the State of
Colorado in the past decade. One of the principal supporters of that referendum was Commissioner Stone.
Over 83% of Eagle County voters rejected Referendum A~ Statewide, two-thirds of the voters rejected this
referendum~ It is clear from these votes that Conunissioner Stone does not represent the citizens or the
interests of Eagle County on water supply issues. Yet, Connnissioner Stone is the County1s representative
on such important water organizations as the Colorado River Water Conservation District; the Statewide
Water Supply Initiative, the Colorado River Headwaters Forum, Northwest Colorado COWlcil of
Governments Water Quality and Quantity Committee and Club 20. In many cases Corrunissioner Stone is
the. taxpayer's sole representative.
Once again) we believe ,that it is in the best interest of Eagle County for Commissio~er Stone to
immediately step down from these positions and urge the County Conunissioners appoint someone who
truly represents the citizens of Eagle County and is willing and able to- protect our important water interests
without jeopardizing the responsibilities of 1041 permitting issues. We seek representation from someone
with the knowledge of water supply mattersJ the time and ability to meet with his or her constituents, and a
passion for the protection and development of the water resources in Eagle County~
A written response would be greatly appreciated. Please send it in care of Eagle River Water &
Sanitation District. '

Sincerely,

EAGLE RIVER WATER AND SANITATION DISTRICT

~ &tc.~

Rick Sackbauer
Chainnan

cc:

Mr. Am Menconi
Mr. Tom Stone
ER WSD Board of Directors
UER W A Board of Directors
Mr. Qleoo Porzak, Porzak, Browing and Bushong
Mr. Jack Ingstad, County Administrator
Ms. Diane Mauriello, County Attorney
Mr. David Hallford, Balc~mb and Green
Mr. Chuck Ogilby
Mr. Paul Ohri, CRWCD
Mr. T.
