Biologic Flow Recommen_on e
The summer flow recommendation for the upper segment, which meets 3 of 3 criteria and is
within the accuracy range of the R2CROSS model is 4.2 cfs (See Table 1). The winter flow
recommendations, which meet 2 of 3 criteria and are inside the accuracy range of the R2CROSS
model range from 2.0 - 1.6 cfs (See Table 1). Averaging the two winter flow recommendations
within range results in a 1.8 cfs recommendation.

The summer flow recommendation for the lower segment, which meets 3 of 3 criteria and is
within the accuracy range of the R2CROSS model is 12.0 cfs (See Table 2). The winter flow
recommendations, which meet 2 of 3 criteria and are inside the accuracy range of the R2CROSS
model range from 3.8 - 2.4 cfs (See Table 2). Averaging the two winter flow recommendations
within range results in a 3.1 cfs recommendation.

Hydrologic Data

After receiving the cooperating agency's biologic recommendation, the CWCB staff conducted
an evaluation of the stream hydrology to determine if water was physically available for an
instream now appropriation. The hydro graph below was derived from data collected by the
USGS stream gage for East Canyon Creek near New Castle, CO (ill #09085300), which has a
drainage area of 15.1 square miles (See Gage Summary in Appendix C). The total drainage area
of the East Canyon Creek Drainage upstream of Keyser Creek is approximately 7.7 square miles
and the total drainage area of the East Canyon Creek Drainage upstream of Possum Creek is
approximately 15.1 square miles. The period of record for this gage was 1969 to 1983, the
period of record used by staff in their analysis was 1969 to 1983, or 14 years of record. Tables 3
and 4 below display the flow of East Canyon Creek upstream of Keyser Creek (Table 3) and
Possum Creek (Table 4), in terms of a percentage of exceedence.

Table 3: East Canyon Creek estimated flow upstream of Keyser Creek.

Estimated ftON East Cam...., Creek tis of K",_ Ck
Exceedences JanU3JV February March ADril Mav June July Auaust Serrtambor October November December
1% 3.57 3.88 4.95 30.09 117.18 201.93 138.40 17.52 714 9.69 6.63 4.44
5% 3.47 3.57 4.03 14.02 69.75 148.65 66.70 10.20 5.66 7.14 5.10 4.08
10% 3.26 3.37 3.67 11.22 75.47 122.89 40.03 7.14 4.79 5.61 4.95 3.88
20% 3.01 2.88 3.31 7.65 57.62 87.71 24.48 5.61 4.33 4.49 4.18 3.17
00% 2.24 2.35 2.00 4.03 25.00 55.07 9.18 4.49 3.26 3.06 3.01 2.55
00% 1.84 1.84 2.04 2.75 11.22 26.52 5.10 3.37 2.55 2.40 2.14 2.08
00% 1.63 1.78 1.84 2.29 8.67 12.24 3.98 2.70 1.63 2.09 1.84 1.88
95% 1.63 1.73 1.78 1.78 6.25 7.90 2.70 1.88 1.43 1.63 1.88 1.53
99% 1.53 1.63 1.88 1.48 3.53 4.13 1.84 1.51 1.02 1.22 1.48 1.53

East Canyon Creek Estimated Stream Flow
u/s of Keyser Creek

20
15

U 10
5
o

JAN

FEB

MAR

APR

MAY

JUN

JUL

AUG

goP

=

No.1

DEe

Month

- 5 -
