l.

conservation sites; c) an evaluation of specific enviromnental demand after preliminary
identification of likely projects locations through SWSI~ TNe and others in the environmental
community (including the Colorado Water Caucus) stand willing to assist in this
characterization; in fact, TNC would be willing to assemble expertise in aquatic and riparian
ecology to work with other interested experts, the SWSI team, and basin roundtables to conduct
a demonstration of this approach to environmental demand.

Conclusion:
As an organization, The Nature Conservancy has advocated an approach to water management
that Uprotects the ecological integrity of affected ecosystems while meeting intergenerational
human needs for water (Richter et aI, 2003)~ U TNe has worked with partners to achieve this
important goal in rivers throughout the country. The Nature Conservancy seeks to work with the
broader environmental community, the SWSI team, and diverse basin roundtable participants to
realize a similarly successful outcome in this important effort to secure future water supplies for
Colorado's citizens and natural environment. We look fOlWard to contributing to a successful
Statewide Water Supply Initiative. -
