o The Roaring Fork River from Aspen to Glenwood Springs for fishing and
rafting.

o The Gunnison River through Black Canyon of the Gunnison and the Gllnnison
Gorge for fishing, kayaking, rafting and unique ecosystem and scenic values.

o The Arkansas River from Leadville to Canyon City for fishing, rafting and
kayaking~

It will also be important for SWSI to identify areas where local planning efforts and
negotiations are in process to address water needs. Examples of these efforts include
Phase III ofUPCO, the Eagle River Assembly, and the cooperative agreements being
developed by the Recovery Implementation Program for Endangered Fish Species in the
Upper Colorado River Basin,

Information Sources

There are a variety of information sources that should be reviewed and considered in the
assessment of environmental and recreational water needs in Colorado. In order to assist
the SWSI team in the development of environmental and recreational water needs, we
have compiled a list of information and data sources that are readily available to the
SWSI study team~ The list is shown below:

1, The complete data base of CWCB instream flow and natural lake level water rights is

2, The Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) mailltains files on site-specific
investigations conduct~d for development of reconnnendations to the CWCB for
instream flow and lake level appropriations. In many cases, the instream flow
appropriations made by the CWCB are less than the biological based water needs
identified by CDOW based upon concerns about water availability.
