Focus on Best <br />Management practices. <br />Legislative Report: Water Resource Review Committee has been <br />meeting regularly; by next week will approve bills they will bring up. <br />Brought up two of the items on the South Platte Task Force; <br />Severance Tax meeting indicates fewer dollars; CWCB, Division of Water <br />Resources receive their fiinding from Severance Task. <br />• Update on South Platte Task Force: None <br />• Walt Knudsen: South Platte Basin Roundtable Overview <br />Look at website to see if you have anything to add. <br />II 4:30: Veva McCaig with CWCB discussed the state's water conservation program and <br />a collaborative iiutiative to develop water conservation metrics as means to measure <br />success in meeting statewide goals for water conservation. <br />Water Conservation klitiatives, Grants, and Measuring v Conservation Success. <br />1) Senate Bill 8-went into effect; took water efficiency grant program created in 2004 <br />and broadened opportunities for other activities: now not only water conservation <br />activities but drought mitigation, and implementation of these plans. <br />Senate Bill 8 infused more money into the grant program; to date, $3 nullion still in <br />purse. Implementation grants coming in from $80,000 up; thus, planning and <br />implementation are beginning to take place. <br />Senate Bill 8 extended sunset from 2008 to 2012; if people interested in these funds, and <br />making applications; could see it extended. <br />Originally, water providers: Eligibility to get to the money is now for anyone. Thus, <br />seeing smaller grant applications coming in and smaller utilities taking advantage of this <br />money; <br />Conservation plan must be in place before loan money can be released. Awards dispersed <br />in 4-6 weeks. <br />2) SWSI Round Two: White paper is being finalized; will be before board in <br />September. <br />3) Smaller to bigger conservation easements. <br />4) Conservation is on level playing filed along with building reservoirs; <br />5) Looked at potential for "too much conservation"; time to reevaluate how this has <br />been done in past. <br />State will look at vulnerability statewide for drought impact. <br />Developing of water conservation metrics; water providers would be willing to <br />provide data <br />BMB: Best Management Practices; <br />Grant applications: 2 units of measurements: Start in Metro area. <br />Lots of input from mayors on how data will be used. <br />2 <br />
