North Platte Basin Roundtable Meeting Minutes 09-25-07 4
There was some discussion about Fins & Peat bogs. CWCB funded a project to move a
fin. It's not really an issue in this basin to inventory those.
Non-consumptive use attributes this basin wants quantified/evaluated:
1. Potential hydropower sites from 2 megawatts up
2. Rafting on the N. Platte. Quantify potential rafting use in Northgate canyon?
Other rafting sites?
3. Quantification of the important fisheries including flatwater fishing/lake
fishing? An issue will be the possible conflicts with storage decrees and releases
resulting in low water levels in reservoirs identified as high quality fisheries...
Quantify the quality fishing by species, flow, etc. Identify where private club
fishing leases are. Identify state wildlife fishing lease areas.
4. Quantify the important waterfowl habitat. Waterfowl habitat
productioi~/wetlands.
5. Identify water developments considered important to sage-grouse (possibly other
wildlife as well?).
6. Potential Augmentation for storage, for low-flow periods.
7. Produced Water?
What day would be the best to conference call w/ CDM? Do we need a conference call?
How do we want to handle it?
***The roundtable did not see the need for the Non-consumptive needs subconullittee to
have a conference call with Patricia Reed of CDM. Dent will call her and tell her what
we discussed as a roundtable, and send her the portion of the nunutes of this discussion,
in lieu of a conference call*
Contract between Jackson County unrl CWCB to do sup face luster model of N. Platte:
The contract is underway. One of the first deliverables from that task effort was a water
district 47 irrigated lands atlas-Kent has a copy, Carl has a copy; Sue Petersmann and
Caid Waldron have copies also. These maps reflect the irrigated land and associated
ditches developed for the irrigated acreage assessment under the south platte. Leonard
Rice wants our roundtable to make corrections/additions to the maps.
Maybe the roundtable can discuss how we can start to get the maps revised. How do we
want to try and do that? There was discussion about the best way to revise the maps.
The main idea was to get landowners involved and get the local lalowledge.
Kent: can look at landownership w/in areas and call these guys to come in and look at
them.
One idea was that maybe the roundtable should hire a person to do this.
Dave M: about 40 years ago they had a committee to classify the ag lands into different
production categories. They called different landowners to come look at aerial maps, and
