4. Education Subcommittee -Communication Plan -Judy Lopez
• Judy is our educational liaison to IBCC's education committee. Each roundtable
informs the IBCC what it's doing. List of items discussed at last meeting held
August 7. Key points:
• Develop a key message from RGBRT -sustaining our water, sustaining our Ag
economy, cutting consumptive use, and furthering collaboration.
• Reconunended: RGBRT needs to ask every speaker or presenter to create a "fact
sheet" -useful as press release - useful to keep our facts straight so that
somebody outside the RT will understand the substance of any speaker.
• We need to expand press exposure. This can be done by issuing a Press Release
after each meeting. Asked Ruth Heidi if her excellent coverage can be printed in
other outlets. "It's not my decision". Press outlets in Hinsdale, Mineral, Saguache
counties, MV Journal, Chieftain, smaller papers in Taos area, La Sierra, form a
collective of information.
• IBCC will do a website featuring the roundtables' activities, priorities. Rita
Cnunpton and Marylou Smith are coordinating this. First step: a photo gallery of
each basin -past and present -with text. Rio offered to provide initial photos.
Eric Hecox put out a template describing the RGIRT. Judy is in a mild panic
because deadline is August 24 and no way possible to satisfy deadline, get correct
data, etc.
On this last point Judy asked the entire roundtable to get involved in giving her
the feedback needed to meet Eric's deadline with GOOD and ACCURATE and
PERTINENT visual and text information. Possible topics -agriculture, wetlands,
recreation, .
MG -Doug needs to tallc with Steve on this and Ralph needs to see it. Joel, it would be
good to include info on Gold Medal fishery on the RG. Rio, input on Conservation
Easement. We need strong collaboration. Make sure no one is left out. Need to be
inclusive. We also need to mention other tributaries
Charlie -I've read this template. I say we throw it out and do our own.
MG - OK, Charlie, write up your comments. If we have the space on the web site we
should mention muiucipal uses, wells, wetlands, agriculture: Mike Sullivan on the
Compact; Travis on the Reservoir; Mike Gibson on the restoration project.
Judy needs feedback by Thursday night of this week. Then she'll send a draft out to
all of us. Unless major objections, we could all meet the deadline.
Minutes, August 14, 2007 2 Rio Grande Basin Roundtable
