Comprehensive update to the 2002 Colorado Drought Mitigation and Response Plan,
including potential development of statewide triggers and identification of anticipated
socioeconomic drought impacts.
The State's Water Availability Task Force recently evaluated and expanded its drought
mitigation goals into the following eight goals. These will be used to guide the selection of
activities under the Program.
1. Improve Water Availability Monitoring
2. Increase Public Awareness and Education
3. Support Substitute Water Supply Plans and Leasing Options to Augment Water
Supply
4. Facilitate Watershed and Local Planning
5. Reduce Water Demand/Encourage Conservation
6. Impact Reduction
7. Develop Intergovernmental and Interagency Stakeholder Coordination
8. Evaluate Potential Impacts from Climate Change
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Board request the General Assembly to authorize $300,000 from the
Construction Fund to be appropriated to the Department of Natural Resources for allocation to
the CWCB for use in its Office of Water Conservation & Drought Planning.
