Existing Water Right Information
Staff has analyzed the water rights tabulation and consulted with the Division Engineer Office
(DEO) to identify any potential water availability problems. There are no decreed surface
diversions within this reach of stream. As stated in the Hydrologic Data section of this report,
the Cochetopa Meadows Ditch is located above this segment. Based on this analysis staff has
determined that water is available for appropriation on Pauline Creek, between the confluence
with Chavez Creek and the headgate of the Tarbell and Alexander Ditch, to preserve the natural
environment to a reasonable degree without limiting or foreclosing the exercise of valid existing
water rights.
CWCB Staff's Instream Flow Recommendation
Staff recommends the Board form its intent to appropriate on the following stream reach:
Segment: Chavez Creek to Tarbell & Alexander Ditch
Upper Terminus: CHAVEZ CREEK
(Latitude 38° 6' 32.5"N) (Longitude 106° 47' 58.8"W)
UTM - 4219441.4 N 342222.7 E
NE NW S 6 T44N R2E 6PM
2309' East of West Section Line; 321' South of North Section Line
Lower Terminus: TARBELL & ALEXANDER DITCH
(Latitude 38° 9'9.9"N) (Longitude 106° 45' 39.3"W)
UTM 4224227.4 N 345710.8 E
NE NW S21 T45N R2E 6PM
2283' East of West Section Line; 364' South of North Section Line
Watershed: Tomichi (HUC#: 14020003)
Counties: Saguache
Length: 4.1 miles
USGS Quad(s): Elk Park, Cold Spring Park
Flow Recommendation (Enlargement): 2.0 cfs (April 1 to April 30)
2.75 cfs (May 1 to June 30)
2.0 cfs (July 1 to Aug 31)
1.0 cfs (Sept 1 to Sept 30)
-7-
