Project Overview

The Palmer Divide is a unique topographic feature, located south of Denver and
extends eastward from the foothills of the Rock:y Mountains into the plains of
northeastern Colorado. The Cherry Creek: drainage basin is on the northern side of the
Palmer Divide between the Kiowa Creek: and Plum Creek: drainage basins. It is
approximately 10 miles wide in the east-west direction and approximately 40 miles long
in the north-south direction. Water in the basin flows south to north from the Palmer
Divide at the southern basin boundary to the Cherry Creek: Reservoir at the northern end
of the basin. The area of the basin is approximately 386 square miles.

Applied Weather Associates, LLC (A W A) assembled a team of experts to
conduct an independent site-specific Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) study for
the Cherry Creek: drainage basin. In addition, the A W A team performed a technical
review of the 1995 National Weather Service (NWS) PMP study titled "Site-Specific
PMP for the Cherry Creek: Drainage in Colorado". This project was supported by the
Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), Arapahoe and Douglas Counties, and the
cities of Aurora and Greenwood Village, Colorado.
