A <br />Greeley official said it would cost millions to safeguard the city against flooding, especially from <br />the No.3 Ditch, which runs through Greeley. The ditch was over its banks Friday. <br />Superintendent of streets Jerry Pickett said three new overflows - concrete slabs above the <br />ditch - have been built to divert water into the streets when the ditch is overflowing. That way <br />it's not as apt to come into residents' yards and flood homes, he added. "There's nothing in this <br />town that's going to handle the amount of water that fell Friday," Pickett said. "We can only do <br />what we're doing now.... cleaning out drains and working on irrigation ditches." Meanwhile, <br />Red Cross officials are working with a dozen families needing assistance after Friday's storm. <br />As of Saturday, no one was displaced. "Some of them needed to wash their clothes, others lost <br />their shoes...
