According to the National Climatic Data Center's NEXRAD radar images, a large front
of severe stonn activity fonned in the mountains and intensilicd as it moved east. The
stonn front hit the Front Range area at approximately 1 0:00PM on July 5th and ended
near 1 :OOAM the fol1owing day. The radar images arc shown on the fol1owing pages, in
Figures 1.7 through 1.16. The legend adjacent to Figure 1.9 indicates that the higher
color numbers relate to higher precipitation intcnsities from the storm. In order 10 locale
Penrose on the NEXRAD radar images, Figure 1.6 contains a map orthe state of
Colorado with the Pcnrose area marked with a black star.
