<br />to discuss the nature of the study, the scope and limits of work, <br />and flood information currently available concerning the community. <br /> <br />Federal, State, and local agencies were contacted regarding the <br />availability of reports, studies, or investigations which could <br />contain information of flooding problems in the community. Infor- <br />mation was also received from FEMA and CWCB. <br /> <br />For certain streams in the study, the results of hydrologic analyses <br />and flood elevations and boundaries~ prepared by the COE, were re- <br />viewed. As a result of this review and coordination with FEMA, <br />CWCB, and the COE, portions of the information supplied were used <br />in this Flood Insurance Study. Analyses of streams where development <br />has substantially altered the drainage basin, or where no existing <br />hydrologic and hydraulic information was available, were carried <br />out by the study contractor. <br /> <br />....-.\1 .... <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the incorporated area of the <br />City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. The area of <br />study is shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />Areas excluded from this study lying within the corporate limits <br />of Colorado Springs were Peterson Air Field, Garden of the Gods <br />Park, North Cheyenne Canyon Park, and Palmer Park. <br /> <br />Floods caused by overflow of Fountain, Monument, Camp, Spring, <br />Sand, Douglas (North and South), Kettle, Bear, Cheyenne, Pine, <br />North Pine, Dry, North Channel Dry, North Fork Dry, South Valley <br />Dry, and Cottonwood Creeks, Rockrimmon and Mesa Basins, Peterson <br />Field, Drainage, Pine Creek Overflow, Templeton Gap Floodway, South <br />ShOoks Rlin, and Big Valley were studied in detail. <br /> <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority <br />given to all known flood hazard areas and areas of projected develop- <br />ment or proposed construction through May 1991. <br /> <br />- . <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />The City of Colorado Springs is located in west-central El Paso <br />County in central Colorado, and it is the county seat.
