V-5

Single family res idences are only eligible for insurance up to a
rate of $17, 500. Two to four-family residences and small bus i-
nesses are eligible for up to $30,000 worth of insurance, Contents
coverage at subsidized rates is available in amounts up to $5,000.
It should be noted that homes on which construction was begun after
the date of eligibility cannot be covered by these subsidized insur-
ance rates.

Flood Proofing. Much of the flood plain will be inundated to rel-
atively shallow depths during all but major floods. Therefore, it
is realistic to consider permanent flood proofing as a means of
protecting some of the existing structures. Such flood proofing
could include flood walls, relocation of entrances, or low levees
which were landscaped to blend into the surroundings. Problems
of draining the land within the levees could occur which probably
would be offset by the protection afforded.

Advanced Flood Warning. The Civil Defense System, the Urban
Drainage and Flood Control District or the City might establish
a warning system to alert homeowners to impending floods. This
would probably consist of the use of air raid sirens with a desig-
nated number of signals to indicate flooding on the Creek.

Area II

Area II extends from Highway 93 to South Boulder Road. This
reach of South Boulder Creek is largely farm and range land with some
concentrated development near Highway 93. The possible flood control
alternatives are side channel storage, flood control berms, flood plain
zoning, flood plain acquis ition, flood insurance, flood proofing and flood
warning system.

Alternatives not previously discussed are described below:

Flood Detention Bas ins. There are large areas in this reach
which might be used for flood water detention in which the
primary purpose would be the protection of concentrated develop-
ment north of Baseline Road.
