Colorado Water for the 21St Century <br />Metro Roundtable -Meeting Minutes <br />July 11, 2007 4:00 - 6:10 PM <br />Arvada Center <br />Doug Scott chaired the meeting. <br />An IBCC update report was presented by Doug Scott, Chips Barry, and Peter Binney <br />Robert Sakata reported that the Colorado Agricultural Alliance to consider options that <br />may be available for farming interests, related to water supply matters. A meeting is <br />planned for December. <br />Eric Hecox provided an update on the individual basin-wide water needs assessment <br />process. Two work groups have been formed - anon-consumptive work group and a <br />consumptive work group. The non-consumptive group has met once. It is the intent that <br />each basin will use a common methodology to determine non-consumptive needs, with <br />the results of the work groups to be approved by the individual roundtables. Work will <br />include development of GIS coverage of Colorado's important environmental and <br />recreational attributes. David Nickum and someone to be appointed from Denver <br />Water's staff will work with the South Platte basin non-consumptive needs work group. <br />The consumptive work group will consist of the SWSI Gap Technical Committee, plus <br />additional members designated by the individual roundtables. The first consumptive <br />group meeting will be August 1. Eric reported that the planning horizon for the <br />consumptive work group may possibly be extended to 2050. All of the water needs <br />assessment work is scheduled for completion by December 2008. <br />Kelly DiNatale provided a briefing on the consumptive needs in the South Platte basin. It <br />is likely that up to 100,000 acre-feet of gravel lake storage may be constructed in the <br />next 20 years, 80% of which to be used to recapture reusable municipal return flows. <br />There is over 4,000,000 acre-feet of conditional storage rights in the South Platte basin, <br />considering only those individual rights that are larger than 1,000 acre-feet in scope. <br />Dave Kaunisto reported on the proposed Zero Liquid Discharge study. After discussion, <br />the Metro Roundtable members unanimously approved $200,000 of SB-179 funds to <br />support this study. <br />Frank Yeager asked for consideration of an additional $50,000 to support Parker Water <br />and Sanitation District's request for funding of a Rural-Urban Water Model Study, but no <br />action was taken concerning this matter. <br />The next meeting is scheduled for August 8 at a location to be determined <br />Prepared by: Gary Thompson <br />August 3, 2007 <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />
