F ounlain Creek
(Pueblo County)

Introduction

During the period extending
from May 5lh to May 6th.
2007, a rainstonn covering
most of the Fountain Creek
drainage hasin produced rain
depths of approximately 1 to
I ~ 1/2 inches. Pcak !lows
along Fountain Creek were
reported at several USGS
Gage stations along the creek
with a maximum recorded
!low of about 3.500 ers. As
Fountain Creek enters the
City of Pueblo. the FEM^
ctlective Flood Insurance
Study (FIS) dated September
29. 1986. lists the peak llows
as: QIOO = 64,OOO.cfs: Qso =
45.000,ef,; and OlO ~
18,500.cfs at a location
which is approximately 3,500
feet upstream of State
llighway 47. This would
indicate that the recorded
peak !lows in Fountain Creek
during this storm would not
be considered excessive, and
by extrapolation would be
somewhere less than a 2-ycar
event but more than the
annual event.
