.

IV.

NATIONAL GIS DATA COLLECTION

The world.wide-web was searched to acquire digital data for purposes of
creating reference maps and determining stream miles. The web sites where
the data was acquired are listed below.

· Municipal boundaries, street centerlines, and railroads were obtained via
download from the ESRI website at:
http://www.esri.com/data/download/census2000tiqerline/index.htm I
Source of these files is the U.S. Census Bureau (TIGER2000).
· Stream centerline and water body files were obtained from USGS website
at: http://nhdqeo.usqs.qov/viewer,htm
Source of these files is USGS (National Hydrography Dataset).
· Effective FIRM panels shapefile was obtained from FEMA.

V. AVAILABLE DATA ASSESSMENT

Detail of features and data types available is provided in the Available Data
Review in Appendix D. GIS personnel contact information is provided in
Community Contacts list in Appendix B.

.

In addition, available GIS data and sources can be found on the State's
Geospatial Standard Operating Procedure document located on the Tools &
Links page of FEMA's Mapping Information Platform website at
https://hazards. fema. qov/femaportal/wps/portal.

VI.

EXISTING STUDY DATA

Existing study data was not identified through the research conducted in this
Prescoping effort. Availability of current floodplain study information will be
discussed during the Scoping Meeting for this project.

VII. EFFECTIVE STREAM MILES

An Effective Streams file, LOMC point file, and base map files showing
County/community boundaries, streets, and streams were compiled and are
included on the accompanying CD. General community information, contacts,
NFIP participation, mapping needs, and floodplain ordinances are provided in
the hard copy of this report and digitally on the accompanying CD.

Streams in EI Paso County
Source Streams used to facilitate stream length outputs are from the USGS
National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). The NHD data was chosen because it
is the most accurate data available at the national level. Medium resolution
NHD was used because it is available nationwide (currently high resolution

.

3
