change quite a bit in a short amount of time. If cells are detected earlier this could aid in
getting the pilots to where seeding would be the most efficient.
Another benefit in determining the time difference of first echo detection between the
two radars could be cost. All National Weather Severe and most Department of Defense
WSR-88D radar data are available in near real time. If a new cloud seeding district in a
location with good WSR-88D radar coverage, it would be cost benefit to use the NWS
WSR-88D radar data if the time difference of first echo detection is favorable.
The data used in conducting the results are discussed in the next section. The
methodology follows the data section. After the data section, the results of the first
detection evaluation are discussed. Conclusions and discussion of future studies are
provided in the last section.
9
