However, two good examples come to mind in the west: the rose garden in Exposition Park in Los Angeles and the trellised garden adjacent to the lucky Baldwin stables at the Los Angeles Arboretum near Arcadia, California. The objective of this garden is to provide an old-fashioned community center for concerts and picnics near the river but also formally reinforcing the sense of entry to the city and serving as a contrasting composition to the wild garden across the river at Confluence Point.
