. . APR 1214 '94 1213: 35PM PLNG DIV OMAHA DIST ACOE

P.6

~..

.

Appendix A
SCOPI OJ' WOU

COLORADO HYDROLOGY KaNUAL

August 1992

The Colorado Hydrology Manual is proposed for completion
within 12 months. The scope of work for this manual was designed
to accommoaate availaDle fiscal year 1992 funding. Because of the
limited funds available at this time for development of the manual,
this effort will focus on compilinq existing information only, with
emphasis on providing procedures to establish flood peak
discharges. The manual will define hydrologic models which are
applicable for Colorado streams and will outline acceptable
procedures and limits for input parameters to be used in those
procedures. preparing a more comprehensive hydrology manual, one
that would involve the development of new information such as case
studies, would take more funds and more time and could be
considered as a follow-up effort in the future.

The corps will perform the tasks identified below and prepare
a report. entitled "Colorado Hydrology Manual." The manual will
present gUidelines ana procedures for performing hydrologic
analyses that are satisfactory to the Colorado Water Conservation
Board (CWCB). In the development of the manual, the Corps will
reference applicable methods and procedures of its sister aqencies-
-the Soil Conservation Service, the U. s. Geological Survey, and
the Federal Emergenoy Management Ageney.

TASKS:

I. Define Climatic/Hydrologic Regions of Colorado
A. Parameters tor defining regions and crit.eria for
each paramet.er
B. Description of each reg-ion and map showing
geographic limits ot each region

II. StUdy Gaged Streams
A. Assuring the correct region tor ,a particular basin
~. Analyzing the gage record
. Methods to expand the data population
. Procedure for filling qaps in the data
population
. Evaluating larqe flood flows
. Computing skew coefficients
C. considering al ternati ves or supplements to qag'e
analysis
D. Synthesizing the results
E. Using regional methods and regression equations

Appendix A
