BOULDER AND FLOODS
Boulder has a propensity for, but not a
frequency ot flooding.

Why:
We stand at the base of the foothills:
. 13 creeks cross our city.
. 150/0 is in floodplain
. More than 4,000 structures are affected

It has happened before:
. Boulder Creek 1894, then 1914, 1919, 1921,
1938 and 1969
. Twomile Canyon Creek 1909, then again in fall
1933
. South Boulder Creek 1938, then 1958 and 1969
(with Bear Canyon Creek and Viele)

We have seen great regional floods:
. Big Thompson 1976 (140 fatalities, creation of
warning signs)
. Forth Collins 1997 (5 fatalities outside of
defined floodplain)
