Plan and Host 'Vater Education Provider Meetings

Two meetings for water education providers/stakeholders were held, one on April 30 and the
other on October 16 at the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Hunter Education Building in
Denver. Nancy Kellogg, Coordinator: and Don Hollums, Colorado Department of Education,
convened these two meetings. Thirty-three water education providers representing school
districts, water utilities, Colorado Water Conservation Board, universities and colleges,
Colorado Division of Wildlife, Colorado Department of Education, wastewater districts,
Ocean Journey, Project Learning Tree, Project Wet, Water's Ways, Colorado Watershed
Network, Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, water conservation and conservancy
districts, U.S. Geological Survey, and the Environmental Protection Agency attended this
meeting. Participants shared programs and infonnation and discussed how they can collaborate
in the future. Many of the participants had not met before and in some cases did not know
about some of the water education programs/activities offered by others. The group saw a
need for future meetings, more adult education programs, and coordination of Colorado water
education efforts. Attachment B summarizes how the April 30 meeting met their needs and
future needs for water education. The October l6 meeting in Denver was described in detail
in the previous paragraph on a water education plan. Additional meetings were planned for
Grand Junction and Durango. The Grand Junction meeting was cancelled due to the low number
of people who could attend. The Durango meeting was also cancelled since the water providers
in that area of the state work closely on a regular basis.

Set Up and Provide Ongoing Communication Tbrough Listserve for Water Education
Providers and CWCB

A Iistserve was set up by the Coordinator and currently has l05 members receiving ongoing
communication about a variety of topics such as water provider meetings, workshop and
conference opportunities, water information, water education resources, and input on
planning for a water education foundation. In addition the Coordinator communicated
regularly with Dan McAuliffe, Tom Cech, Chris Treese, Judith Daley, Dave Munk, Don
HoIlums, Rita Crumpton, and Alisabeth Hohn about ongoing operation of the Colorado
water education effort, the two pilot education classroom projects (Learning to be WaterWise
and Water's Ways), and the evaluation of the two pilot projects. The Coordinator also hosts a
listserve for the Colorado Science Education Network. She shares information on water
education across the water provider and science network groups and recruited several members
of the science network to become involved with the water education group. Water education
information was also sent to the MAST Center at the University of Northern Colorado which
was disseminated through their listserve. Links with a wide range of organizations/centers
via telecommunications has greatly enhanced communication on water education. Through
email the Coordinator collected survey information on water education efforts. See the survey
summary as Attachment C.
