Water Availability and Sustainability - this infonnation is needed to assess the viability and effectiveness of the <br />water project or activity. Please provide a description of each water supply source to be utilized for, or the water body <br />to be affected by, the water activity. For water supply sources being utilized, describe its location, yield, extent of <br />development, and water right status. For water bodies being affected, describe its location, extent of development, and <br />the expected effect of the water activity on the water body, in either case, the analysis should take into consideration a <br />reasonable range of hydrologic variation. <br /> <br />The water supply for this pro.ject will be furnished through an existing Rural Water Company, <br />Montezuma Water Company (MWC). MWC owns water rights that are used to provide domestic <br />water service to MWC members in three counties in Southwest Colorado. The water supply is the <br />Dolores River and the wells in Lost Canyon. At maximum daily demand MWC uses <br />approximately 3% of its total water rights. <br /> <br />MWC's treatment plant has a current capacity of 4 million gallons per day and this past year at <br />maximum demand the plant was at 44% capacity. <br /> <br />MWC is a 501 C 12 non-profit corporation formed in 1965. The company has 4,084 members with <br />450 miles of main lines in Montezuma, Dolores, and San Miguel counties. The company has 12 <br />storage tanks with 7 pump stations. In 2005, MWC was named "Water Utility of the Year" in the <br />state of Colorado by the Colorado Rural Water Association. They currently have 20 employees <br />and are governed by a 9 member Board of Directors. <br /> <br />The MWC Board of Directors has passed a resolution supporting the GPW A domestic water <br />construction project. <br /> <br />7.
