Conclusions

. The previous slides tell quite a story of the South Platte. We divert about 210/0
of the State's water and produce 700/0 of it's agriculture sales. We haven't even
mentioned that 2/3 of the people of Colorado live in and consume water in the
South Platte basin!
. The final slide is perhaps the most important and often over-looked. Everyone
tells us what a crisis we're in. Farms are being dried up, wells shut off, cities
buying up OUR water. Yet in 2030, according to SWSI, agriculture will still use
860/0 of our State's water. Where and how will agriculture use this 860/0 to
maximize production and wealth formation?
. I'm optimistic about tomorrow. What kinds of partnerships can be forged and
projects developed? When we started this Roundtable process 2 years ago I
couldn't of dreamed of this diverse group of interests jointly working together to
advance water interests. Environmentalists, farmers and cities are working to
create more wet, usable water with something in it for everyone.
. The South Platte, when real production numbers are factored in, is THE
MODEL for putting water to beneficial use. I'm enormously proud of our
SORRY LITTLE RIVER!
