On June 2 and 3rd. we experienced a devastating flood to
our ranch and neighboring properties and ranches. We were put out
of business for two weeks and had to evacuate horses. Again this
morning we had flooding. Due to high run off and releases from
Steamboat lake, the Elk River overflows its banks and floods ours
and neighboring ranches. Saddle Mountain Ranch is flooded because
of the Elk River coming over its banks and inadequate state and
county ditches and culverts. Yet, the most pressing problem is that
the Elk River needs more flood control. Dikes need to be built. On
June 3 it was so close to completely breaking through the banks and
then taking out two to three ranches. Our greatest frustration is
that no one will accept any responsibility and they all feel that
it is the responsibility OL another department. We need some help
in keeping this river in' its banks and avoiding such devastating
flooding. Hopefully, your office can make flood control on the Elk
River a priority. We appreciate any help that you can give us.

Saddle Mountain Ranch'
23760 West Hwy. 40,~'Steamboat Springs, CO 80487
