Prior to 1995, the Town of Erie was small and rural in nature; considerable <br />grovvth occurred after 1997 and continues tht'Ough 2004. Currently, Erie is a bedroom <br />community for the Denver metropolitan area. <br /> <br />Water Supply. Erie's water supply has grown sharply over the last 10 years to keep <br />pace with population growth. Erie has purchased C-BT Project water since 1992 to the <br />pl:esent, which currently provides more than 90 percent ofEde's water supply. Other <br />water sources include the ownership and planned acquisition of 20 tmits of Windy Gap <br />water, reservoir storage rights. and various ditch shares. Erie does not currently have a <br />firm supply of water for reusc. when available, efflucnt from Windy Gap water is used <br />via an exchange to irrigate parks and open space. Erie estimates about 50 percent of its <br />Windy Gap water could be reused. if the WGFP is implemented, The current estimated <br />firm ammal water supply for the Town of Erie is 2,145 AF. <br /> <br />Growth and Population Trend. Erie's population has grown from about 1,260 in <br />1990 to 6,300 in 2000; population in 2004 is estimated at 10,390. From 1990 to 2004. <br />Erie's population grew substantially as indicated by a populat;on in.crease of 729 percent <br />aod a 744 percent increase in the number of housing units. <br /> <br />Current Water Demand. Encompassing about 14 square miles, the Town of Erie <br />and its water department serve most customers within its service area, Left Hand Water <br />District is temporarily serving a portion of Erie's service area. No large industrial or <br />other water users were served as ofmid-2004_ From 1997 through 2003, total water <br />deliveries for the Town of Eric increased by a factor of 6.4. In 2002, residential water <br />use comprised 76 percent oftota1 water sales, and residential use has averaged 88 percent <br />of total water sales from 1997 through 2004. In 2003 and 2004, commercial water sales <br />accounted for more than 15 percent of total. water sales. The Town of Erie initiated non- <br />potable water use in 2001 and averaged about 80 AF of deliveries between 2001 and <br />2003, Total water requirements for the Town of Erie increased from 229 AF in 1995 to a <br />high of2,025 AF in 2002. From 2000 to 2003, total water use averaged 164 gpcd and <br />residential water use averaged 129 gpcd. <br /> <br />Pro,jected Water Demand. Buildout population ;s estimated to occur in the year <br />2025, with a population of about 40,700 and 14,600 housing units. Growth rates are <br />assumed to decline as the population grows. Total Erie water requirements are expect to <br />increase from about 2,500 AF i.n the year 2005 to 8,900 AF in the year 2025. This <br />I:eprescnts about a 260 percent change over that period oftime.
