Potable water demands for Cottonwood are based on unit demand factors based on the land use
classification.

Residential
Commercial
Hotel
Country Club
Hospital
School

85 gpcd
20 gpcd
55 gpcd
30 gpcd
20 gpcd plus 278 gallons/bed/day
18 gpcd

Outdoor water uses are based on a seasonal water requirement of 30 inches of supplemental
irrigation with overall outdoor water uses considered for 40% of residential, 35% for
nonresidential areas, and 50% for schools.

Dry year yields for tributary wells drawing from the Cherry Creek alluvium are based on creek
flows being able to meet water rights senior to an 1880 priority date and the rate of recovery of
return flows to which Cottonwood is entitled. Cottonwood has, on average for the period 1995
through 1998 met 27% of its water demands through pumping of its alluvial wells. It is assumed
that Cottonwood can recapture return flows on an annual basis at a rate equivalent to 24% of
water used for outdoor purposes and 81 % of water used for indoor purposes.

Figure D-l - Cottonwood Water Supply by Source

300

50

250

u:: 200
U
~
"C
c::
'"
E
'"
0 150
...
'"
..
s:
>-
€
15 100
:::;:

o
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ * * * * * * ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~~ ~
#~~#~/#~~#~/##~#~/#~~~#
Date
