Appendix 2 ~ Castle Pines North Metropolitan District
(Castle Pines North)

Distn-ict Boundary/ Service Area

Castle Pines North serves an area of primarily single family residential and light commercial
development immediately north of Castle Pines and west of 1-25 in the central part of the Study
Area. The district's water supply is developed exclusively from non-tributary wells with
adjudicated rights in the Upper and Lower Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe and Laramie-Fox Hills
formations. All water uses in Castle Pines North are currently met by pumping five Arapahoe
wells, one Denver well and one Lower Dawson well that was completed in 2000 for irrigation
purposes. Potable water is treated (iron and manganese removal) and disinfected before delivery
to customers. The District also operates an augmentation plan to reclaim return flows from Happy
Canyon Creek and other local drainageways. Castle Pines North also has the right to reuse treated
wastewater effluent from the Plum Creek Wastewater Authority (see Appendix L) - that non-
potable water system will be used in the future to irrigate open space areas and the Ridge golf
course.

The service area includes 2,100 acres of which 980 acres are currently developed.

Current and Projected Water Usage

In 1996, Castle Pines North used 550 acre-feet of water. By 2000, the annual water demand had
increased to 1345 acre-feet and reflects the significant growth in demands that have been met by
expanding the pumping of the Denver Basin aquifers. Extensive residential and some commercial
development has occurred in the last 5 years and the District currently serves approximately 2200
SFEs. It is expected that build-out of the District will occur by year 20 10 with a total of 3400
SFEs. An estimated 2,176 acre-feet per year of additional water is required to meet build out
conditions. If adjacent areas elect to be served by Castle Pines North, they would be required to
dedicate adequate water supplies to meet the projected water demands of the zoned urban
densities.

Table B-1 - Historic and Projected Water Uses - Castle Pines North

Year

SFE
Connections

1993
1994
1995
1996
1997
1998
1999
2000
Ultimate
(year) 2010)

2200
3400

Annual Water Delivered
(Ac-ft)
407
461
430
639
776
954
1035
1345
2176
