As I explained in our telephone conversation, we would like to add
a discharge point to Permit COG-500394, which covers the following facility:

Name:
Location:

Fort Lupton Sand and Gravel
S% of the NWY4 of Section 30, Township 2N, Range 67W, Weld County

Currently we have only Discharge Point 001, described as:
001 Discharge from the settling basin prior to entering the South Platte River.

We would like to add an additional discharge point (or two - see below), described as:
002 Discharge from the settling basin prior to entering the Lupton Bottom Ditch.

Depending on whether the Lupton Bottom Ditch is flowing or not, the water would be directed in one of
two directions. If the ditch is flowing, the discharge water would continue flowing in the ditch. The ditch
flows away from the river at this point. If the ditch is not flowing, the discharge water would be pumped
"upstream" through the dry ditch and discharged into the South Platte River a few hundred feet away.
The Lupton Bottom Ditch Company has been notified of this proposal, and would gladly accept discharge
water from our site, especially with the current drought conditions. With the two directions in mind, we did
not know if this should be considered one or two separate discharge points. We will leave that up to the
Division. The discharge point into the Lupton Bottom Ditch is marked on the attached map.

The estimated rate of flow will be less than 1 MGD. The dewatering operation will be carried out as
before - the perimeters of the mining cell will be trenched. The groundwater which seeps into the trench
will be given adequate time for any sediments to settle out before discharging into the ditch. And as
before, we will only be discharging groundwater.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 303-286-2247 or lemayer@lgeverist.com.

Sil;~ '4
6!nVJ~1j/

Regula(jfU Manager

cc: Richard Schneider

lMiFl-SWaddDischrgPts-021103
