Smith
Mayor, Town of Erie
645 Holbrook Street
Erie, Colorado 80516-0100

Community: Town of Erie, Colorado
Community No.: 080181
Panel Affected: 0001 D
Ef~ective. ~ate of,!" OW 1 6 1998
This ReVISion:

102-I-C

Dear Mayor Smith:

This responds to a request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revise the effective
Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for your community in accordance with Part 65 of the National Flood
Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. In a letter dated October 19, 1998, Ms. Wendi Palmer,
Construction Engineer, Public Works Department, Town of Erie, requested that FEMA revise the FIRM
to correct a mapping error. A Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) was issued on May 24, 1996, to show the
effects of construction of levees and channelization along Coal Creek from approximately 3,600 feet
downstream to approximately 600 feet upstream of the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). However, the
revised floodplain and flood way boundary delineations of the flood having a I-percent chance of being
equaled or exceeded in any given year (base flood) were shown incorrectly on the annotated copy of the
FIRM accompanying the May 24 LOMR.

All data required to complete our review of this request were submitted with letters from Ms. Palmer.
Because this LOMR is being issued to correct a mapping or study analysis error, fees were not assessed
for the review.

We have completed our review of the submitted data and the flood data shown on the effective FIRM. ~
have revised the FIRM to modify the floodplain and floodway boundary delineations of the base flood
along Coal Creek from the southern corporate limit at the UPRR to approximately 1,850 feet downstream.
As a result of the modifications, the floodplain and floodway boundary delineations for Coal Creek shifted
to the east. The maximum shift, approximately 100 feet, occurred adjacent to Anderson Street. The
modifications are shown on the enclosed annotated copy of FIRM Panel(s) 0001 D. This LOMR hereby
revises the above-referenced panel(s) of the effective FIRM dated September 28, 1990.

The May 24 LOMR also affected Weld County, but this revision does not extend beyond the corporate
limit of the Town of Erie. Therefore, the May 24 LOMR issued for Weld County is still valid.

The modifications are effective as of the date shown above. The map panel(s) as listed above and as
modified by this letter will be used for all flood insurance policies and renewals issued for your community.

A review of the determination made by this LOMR and any requests to alter this determination should be
made within 30 days. Any request to alter the determination must be based on scientific or technical data.
