I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
m
I
I
m
I
-
I
I
I

Lower Big Dry <;:;reek Hydrologic Study

During the 2004 flood, high water did not rlch her home, but began to move toward her home
from the south. Ms. Ira is aware that hJr home is in the floodplain and maintains flood

msurance.

A gas well is present on the Ira property and is owned by Star Rider Energy, maintained by
Schneider Services. Ms. Ira indicated that the gas line (from this gas well) to her home is
endangered from erosion. An oil well owned by Tudex, a Canadian firm, was also identified.

The property owners adjacent to her propejY on the southeast are the Ou1ettes, who are also
reported to have experienced significant flooding during 2004 with water in outbuildings and
near their home, which also appears to bJ in the floodplain. The Oulettes were initiating
extensive landscaping involving placement bf fill in the floodplain at the time of the visit, as
evidenced by imported dirt piles on their pro~erty; however, Adams County subsequently is.sued
an order to cease the activity.

6.7 Green Property

Mr. Bob Green's concerns were located on farmland northwest and immediately adjacent to a
new residential subdivision in Thornton off of York and 148th Ave. The farmland is in the
floodplain, with an adjacent barn and farmJouse to the southeast, which appear to be slightly
above the floodplain.

Mr. Green's initial concern is the bridge protding access to pastureland and a gas well/tank area.
He reported that it had been repaired four times this year, usually by the oil/gas company, Kerr-
I
McGee. The bridge consists of a corrugated metal pipe enclosed in several feet of gravel road
base, without riprap. Several feet of cutting kd erosion of the bridge embankment were evident
on both the upstream and downstream sides of the bridge, as shown on the photo. The culvert
appears to be undersized and the embankment does not appear to have adequate protection from
erosion to withstand flows in the creek.

Roughly 20 years ago, the Mr. Green repoIited that he could drive across the creek without a
bridge, The summer stonns of 2004 were re highest flows recollected by the Green family,
other than a dam breach from Standley Lake in the early to mid 1900's.
I

971-179.092 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
