The South Metro Water Supply Authority's water master plan is a roadmap to
maximize the use of existing infrastructure, partner with other water entities for new
water sources, lease or acquire water rights and establish structural projects for a more
sustainable water supply.

According to the master plan, in 2010 there will be a demand of 70,000-acre feet per
year, but only 25,900-acre feet is from non-tributary groundwater. The rest is from other
existing surface water rights and reuse.

The authority's goal for the use of non-tributary groundwater in 2030 is roughly half at
14,900-acre feet per year. The Authority estimates growth in new renewable water. It
plans for about 32,900 acre feet of the demand in 23 years will come from new,
renewable surface water.

However, there has not been discussion of more water storage beyond Parker Water
and Sanitation's expanded Rueter-Hess Reservoir.

Members of the south metro authority developed their Regional Water Master Plan to
expand the role of renewable water supplies in reducing dependency on deep ground
water.

The authority was formed in August 2004 as a regional water entity that plans,
develops and provides renewable water to about 255,000 people in Douglas and
Arapahoe counties.

The municipal water providers in the south metro authority include Arapahoe County
Water and Wastewater Authority, Castle Pines North Metropolitan District, Centennial
Water and Sanitation District, Cottonwood Water and Sanitation District, East Cherry
Creek Valley Water and Sanitation District, Inverness Water and Sanitation District,
Meridian Metropolitan District, Parker Water and Sanitation District, Pinery Water and
Wastewater District, Roxborough Park Metropolitan District, Stonegate Village
Metropolitan District, Castle Rock and the Castle Pines Metropolitan District

The 128-page master water plan is available at www.southMetroWater.org.

South Platte Task Force: The first meeting of the task force established by Gov. Bill
Ritter to seek solutions for South Platte River basin water users was held on June 29 in
Greeley. The 23-member task force was created to seek solutions for water users in

42
