<br />COLORADO RlVER WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />ELKHEAD RESERVOIR EXPANSION <br /> <br /> <br />I~ <br />I <br /> <br />Construction of Labyrinth Spillway <br /> <br />Proiect Description <br /> <br />The Colorado River Water Conservation District is located in Glenwood Springs and is comprised <br />of all or part of 15 counties that are in the northern half of the Colorado River drainage basin. The District <br />conserves, uses, safeguards, and develops water resources of the Colorado River and its tributaries to which <br />the State is entitled to under the Colorado River Compact. This project was a collaborative effort between <br />the River District and the Upper Colorado Recovery Program to enlarge Elkhead Reservoir by raising the <br />existing dam 24-feet, for the purpose of obtaining an additional 12,000 acre-feet of storage to support <br />endangered fish species downstream (5,000 acre-feet) and for municipal, industrial, and agricultural use <br />(7,000 acre-feet). The project also included construction of a new labyrinth spillway, outlet tower, <br />environmental mitigation areas, and a State Park campground site. <br /> <br />Proiect Data <br /> <br />Sponsor: Colorado River Water Conserv.
