February 27, 1998

001631

11.2 Develop Major Diversion Data

Primary Responsibility: Boyle

Most diversion records have been digitized and placed in the CRDSS database only for the
period 1975 forward. For the period prior to 1975, most diversions will be estimated.
However, a relatively large portion of the basinwide diversions is concentrated among
relatively few large projects. Using actual rather than estimated diversions for a limited
number of structures is expected to improve the overall quality of the extended historical data
set. Therefore the objective of this subtask is to collect diversion records for certain
structures, and prepare them for inclusion in the CRDSS database.

The CRDSS database will be reviewed to see what data exist for the major transbasin
diverters and key large diversions such as Maybell Canal, the Grand Valley diversions, and
the Gunnison Tunnel. Readily available diversions of these major projects will be gathered
and digitized, if not already within the CRDSS database. For budgeting purposes, it is
assumed that records for approximately 29 projects will be assessed, and that half of these
will require gathering additional information and digitizing. It is assumed that diversions for
these structures from 1992 through 1996 are currently in the CRDSS database. The data will
be digitized in a format suitable for inclusion into the CRDSS database by the State or other
contractor.

,.j.aJJ
11':";/

A task memorandum will be prepared, listing the structures for which actual diversions are to
be used in the historical data set, the selection criteria, and sources for data. The
memorandum is expected to be 2 pages in length.

Deliverables:
· major diversion data for 1929-1974 for approximately ten structures, in either ASCII or
Excel format
· Draft and Final major diversion data memorandum

11.3 Load Database
Primary Responsibility: State or Other Contractor
The deliverable data from Tasks 11.1 and 11.2 will be loaded into the CRDSS database.
Deliverables:
· updated database files

11.4 Develop Municipal and Industrial Data

Primary Responsibility: Boyle

Municipal and industrial diversion patterns for structures not included in Task 11.2 will be
evaluated to determine changes in diversion patterns over time. This task will identify
explicitly modeled diversion structures that have potentially changed during the study period,

2
