Part II.

Purpose of this study:
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Slow the Flow Colorado
Irrigation Inspection program. There were severall<ey pieces of data that needed to be
gathered, processed and analyzed in order to perform the analysis of the Slow the Flow
Colorado program. Below is a chart detailing the main variables relevant to this study.

Slow the Flow
Analysis

I Water Consumption

Landscape Size

I

I

Evapotranspiration Rate

I

Data Collection
Water Consumption (in gallons) was obtained from water records and used to determine
water consumption before and after the inspection. At the time of the appointment, each
participant signed a waiver giving the CRC permission to access the water record history for
his/her current address for the purposes of this study. The collection of water records from
the participating entities was an on-going process that tool( place at the end of each
inspection season. Ultimately, water records were collected for each address from 2006
dating bacl( until 1999. In some instances, records were not available dating bacl( to 1999.
In those cases, all of the water records available for that address were retrieved.

Evapotranspiration Rates (ET) (in inches) were obtained from individual weather stations
located along the Front Range. The CRC was only able to make use of data from weather
stations that had available data for all of the years being included in the analysis. Due to
issues such as poor maintenance, mechanical failure, and/or recent installation, many of the
weather stations did not have sufficient or accurate enough data to be included in the
analysis. All of the evapotranspiration data was retrieved as text files from the Denver Water
and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District websites. The CRC gathered ET data
from five weather stations in all.
Appendix D: Evapotranspiration Table

19
