In addition to the aforementioned surveys and evaluations, the Water Division Director,
as well as the Operations Director, periodically shadowed the auditors throughout the
season to make sure that the auditors remained professional and that the necessary
information was being communicated effectively to the homeowner. In 2006, a veteran
auditor was hired to perform additional quality assurance checks and to evaluate the
auditors several times throughout the season. A quality assurance checl<list was created
and subsequently completed for each inspection that was shadowed. The checklist was
meant to ensure that the auditor was correctly going through all of the inspection
procedures and to mal<e note of any improvements that the auditor needed to mal<e. At
the end of the appointment, the Quality Assurance Auditor shared the checklist with the
auditor being shadowed so that he/she could be aware of what improvements needed to
be made.
Appendix C: Quality Assurance Checklist

Homeowner Feedback

Inspection Met or Auditor displayed knowledge and skills Mail-in Evaluation
Year Exceeded Expectations necessary to perform inspection Return Rate
effectively
2004 930/0 980/0 180/0
2005 980/0 1000/0 380/0
2006 990/0 980/0 320/0

Comments:

"Very in-depth. The auditor was patient and explained everything well. I can't begin to
tell you how glad I am to have this information!"
-Charlotte Levi of Lafayette

"The auditor was meticulous, intelligent and very helpful. I think Reed (auditor) saved
my lawn. I think this is the best thing I've gotten in the 28 years of living in Boulder!"
-Ardee Imerman of Boulder

"The auditor that came out was very knowledgeable, courteous and helpful-very
thorough. I have always wondered what time is best to water the lawn-we never thought
about running the sprinklers on 3 cycles (but) it all mal<es sense now."
- Michael and Francie Downie of Boulder

"Very thorough information. Greta (auditor) had good bacl<ground knowledge."
-Cheryle Kypsall of Longmont

"(The auditor) was familiar with all system parts and had clear, helpful instructions for
improving the system."
-Mrs. Keefner of Westminster

17
