Costing just over $4.5 million (with $1.1 million donated from Indiana DNR). <br />the park has grown to host about 12,000 visitors each season. Though known for hosting national and <br />international slalom races, the site also welcomes the public, including locals and tourists alike who rice <br />the course in rented funyaks and rafts. The development of the waterway has rejuvenated the East Side <br />of South Bend and facilities have been expanded to house a fish passage that even has an underwater <br />viewing room and window for study or the fish migration downstream. The two-drop park took just $100,000 to construct with more than ;: <br />o <br />$60,000 of that total covered by the city. which provided labor and donations from local fundraising. ~ <br />The citizens approved a 25 percent gross receipt tax allowing for funds to be put toward creating :> <br />the course. All remaining funds were provided by private organizations working with the city of 1; <br />Farmington. Currently. flows range between 200 to 5,000 cfs and host crafts ranging from whitewater i . <br />kayaks to boogie boards. According to local paddler Vince Moffet, director of the River Reach ~ <br />Foundation, the park has become a haven for local kids who swim and play there in summer, <br />sometimes causing conflicts with boaters who want to play in the drops.
