~iJ1702

changes everything.

Six years and almost $10
million dollars ago, the Imperial
lnigation District entered into an
agreement to transfer conserved
water to the San Diego County
Water Authorily.
That agreement is based on
active, on-farm conservation,
creating new water for urban
southem Califomia and new
jobs in Imperial County.
But what started
out as a voluntary
transfer between a
willing buyer and
seller has tLJmed into
something far different

A massive fallowing scheme
that today threatens the region's
very existence.
The permanent fallowing of
productive farmland, whether it is
to sustain urban expansion or stem
the decline of the Salton Sea,
means several thousand jobs lost
in an economy that can't afford to
lose even one.
Water rights count
for more than that in
California, and so do
the people who live,
work and raise their
families in the
Imperial Valley.

IMPERIAL VALLEY UNITED

Part of the solution, not the sole solution.

Imperial Valley United is a broad coalition of agriculture, business and local government Oncluding tha 110) dedicated
to preserving the region's water rights and protecting its way of life.
