ColoraJo FounJation for Water EJucation
Finally a Reality /

DENVER - Mter many years of effort, the Colorado Foundation for Water Education is finally a reality.

Officially founded in September 2002, this independent non-profit organization was developed to promote better
understanding of water issues through educational opportunities and resources.

The foundation does not take an advocacy position, nor participate or intervene in any political campaign. Instead, it
will work to help resolve water resource problems through educational programs.

In 2003, the foundation plans to target adult audiences such as journalists, the general public, and decision makers, as
well as K-12 teachers and students.

Water professionals from around the state gathered in late August in Pueblo to name the foundation's first board,
including representatives from agriculture, water conservation, industry, education, recreation and the legislature.
Rep. Diane Hoppe (R-Sterling) was selected as Board President. The current CFWE executive officers are:

Office Name Interest Area Organization
President Diane Hoooe Legislature R-Sterling
Vice President Gree: Hobbs Water law Colorado. Brown holds a masters degree in rangeland ecosystem science from Colorado State
University, and a bachelors in political science from Cornell University. Her background includes development of
water-related research and educational programs, grant writing, and group facilitation.

''Although our offices are located in Denver, we will be developing programs throughout the entire state," says Brown.
"There are many opportunities to partner with existing education providers. I look forward to helping Colorado
citizens better understand water resource issues, through objective research-based information and education."

Some of the educational products currently under development by the foundation include easy-to-read briefings on
topics such as water law and hydrology. Maps outlining the state's water resources and history will soon be available.
Educational tours highlighting regional water issues will also be developed for 2003.

For more information, please contact Executive Director Karla Brown, 303-377-4433.
