understand pre ssures on neighboring basins. These are d ifficult conversations, and where
this group could fit in is to add ress th ese multiple education needs. I’m t alking about
wells being shut off in northeastern Colorado – I’m not sure the Gunnis on Basin
understands how painful it is to those ag ricultural producers, and vice versa. I’m not s ure
we have a good forum for th ese kind s of conversations right now .

Eric K uhn: I second what Kathleen has said. After l ast year’s joint meeting of the
Roundtable s, the comments were very positive. This group needs to target outreach and
education and not duplicate other efforts . C onnecting Roundtables with existing
information might be the most effective way .

Rita Crumpton: I’d like to underscore that committee does not want to duplicate any
ongoing efforts , and we will try to link Roundtables with existing resources.

Eric He cox: The Public Education and Outreach W orking G roup met this morning about
the website – when we do the redesign, there will be an opportunity for each Roundtable
to tell their story . We’ll draft some of that language to provide a starting point, and the
Roundtables might already be thinki ng about what kind of things they want to
communicate. We’re a lso struggling to find a good way to share presentations the
R oun d tables have been giving to the IBCC with a broader audience.

Marc Catlin: The state coul d help us by issuing press release s when ever the IBCC meets
around the state, and working with both local and statewide news outlets to make sure the
meetings are covered. Perhaps we could write our own story, and the press could come
to the meetings for interviews? Then the local audience would know that the meeting
happened and what was discussed. Roundtables could use help from the state learning
how to make this happen with the press.

Stan Cazier: We should have a library of all the good informat ion and presentations
we’ve received , along with a methodology to distribute this information.

Doug Scott: W here is the next round of water leaders? Who will be sitting at this table
in 2050? We’re making assumptions about what future generations want , and we don’t
have their voices at the table. One way to do that is through p ublic education and
outreach. We c ould do an IBCC Junior, and find college st udents from each of the basins
to work with IBCC representatives or Roundtable members.

Harris S herman: I agree we ha ve to add new genetic material t o this group around the
table, and this is an a ppropriate role for the working group to play. We’ve challenged
them to think outside the box.

Chris Moore (Summary): It seems there is group support for continuing the work of the
Public Education and Outreach working group, recommending that committee look at
and begin to address the issue of connectedness.

11
