Purpose <br /> <br />This office report discusses the hydrologic characteristics of the upper portions of the Dolores <br /> <br />River, upstream of McPhee Dam and Reservoir in Montezuma County, Colorado. Its purpose is to <br /> <br />present historic flood data, flow frequency curves, the 100- year hydro graph for the study area, the <br /> <br />relationship between peak flow frequencies and McPhee Reservoir stages, and an analysis of <br /> <br />flooding and related problems for the upper Dolores River basin (shown on Plate 1). The data <br /> <br />presented will be used in the Dolores River near Dolores, Colorado, Flood Insurance Study <br /> <br />requested by the City of Dolores, Montezuma County, the Colorado State Water Conservation <br /> <br />Board, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 8; The Flood Insurance <br /> <br />Study will be done in conformance with the current FEMA Flood Insurance Study Guidelines and <br /> <br />Specifications for Study Contractors (Reference 4-b). <br /> <br />2. Scope <br /> <br />This hydrology report includes normal annual precipitation, flood flow frequency and duration <br /> <br />analyses, storm-runoff relationships, historical flood analysis, and model development. The study <br /> <br />area begins at the upper end of McPhee Reservoir below the city of Dolores, extends up the <br /> <br />Dolores River to the confluence of the two forks, the upper mainstem and the West Dolores <br /> <br />River, then up the two forks to the Montezuma County line. Data developed for the Corps' 1976 <br /> <br />Flood Hazard Information Study on the Dolores River above Dolores, Colorado have been used <br /> <br />and augmented with current data, where available (Reference 4-c). <br /> <br />1 <br />
