PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to provide the results of a hydrologic analysis of potential
flood flows for the Eagle River from Minturn, Colorado to the Eagle-Garfield County line.
Utilizing consistent flood flows will in turn help facilitate consistent floodplain analyses
along the Eagle River in Eagle County.

AUTHORIZATION

This study was authorized and funded by the Colorado Water Conservation Board
(CWCB). Coordination was facilitated through CWCB and the Eagle County
Engineering Department. Hydrologic analysis was performed by Water Resource
Consultants, LLC.

SCOPE OF STUDY

The scope of this analysis is flood flows along the main-stem of the Eagle River from
Minturn, Colorado to the Eagle-Garfield County line. Figure 1 shows the location and
extent of the study reach and study area. The specific reach from the downstream city
limits of Minturn to the Eagle-Garfield County line was targeted as flood flows had not
been previously established for this entire reach of the Eagle or Colorado Rivers. Flood
flows were determined for the 10, 50, 100 and 500 year recurrence intervals. Tributary
streams were analyzed to the extent such analysis aided in determining peak flows on
the Eagle River.

STUDY METHODOLOGY

The study was performed by analyzing existing USGS stream gage records. Figure 1
shows the location of gages utilized in the study. Additionally an areal analysis was
performed to provide detail where results from stream gauging stations were not
considered reliable.

1

~

Water Resource Consultants, LLC
.....l
